Hence in planning the conference an attempt was made to see that even if the contributors did not agree, they would at least communicate with and understand each other. The conference was held at the University of Southampton,26-2g September, rg6g, and about I 20 people attended. The proceedings of the six symposia organised are included in this volume, together with the chairmen's remarks, and an edited record of the discussion. Unfortunately, Professor Ricreur, who had agreed to take part in the 'Doing Good and Suffering Evil' symposium, was unable to attend, and so in 'The Person' symposium was Dr Moore, who, however, presented a paper and a reply to Professor Frings.
