Sexual dimorphism is less than in mexicanus. ADULT MALE race knudseni: Some show extensive black on sides of neck, extending slightly onto upper breast, ADULT MALE race melanurus (Peru and Brazil southwards): Like mexicanus, but averages larger and shows variable white crown and white or greyish collar around base of hindneck.
