What We Mean When We Say “Nursing Home” Before we go any further we want to clarify some terminology. Throughout this book we tend to use the phrases “nursing home” and “long-term-care facility” interchangeably. We do this only for convenience. There are differences. “Long-term care” (or “LTC”) is an umbrella term that applies to any kind of care that someone receives on an ongoing basis. It may include long-term care at home, or more commonly, at the various kinds of facilities we refer to in this book.
