Diagonal communication is prevalent in American and Saudi Arabian organizations, but is more structured and formal than horizontal communication.
Letters and memos are the predominate form of downward communication in Jordanian organizations. In small Jordanian organizations, written messages are delivered by carriers who perform this duty in addition to janitorial work. In Saudi Arabian businesses, face-toface conversation is the preferred form of downward communication. Downward communication is most effective when the information and messages are clear, complete, and audience centered. Downward communication is more effective when the tone is positive, respectful, and courteous.
