The thermal battery provides internal electrical power for the missile during flight. It is sealed in the body of the missile. Figure 1-25. Control actuator section. CAPABILITIES AND FEATURES 1-51. The missile has two gunner-selectable attack modes: top or direct. Each mode has its own flight path or profile for reaching the target.

The control actuator section consists of four control fins, four thrust vector control (TVC) vanes, and a thermal battery. Control Fins 1-48. The control fins maneuver the missile during flight. The spring-loaded fins automatically deploy and lock into flight position after the missile clears the LTA. During flight, they adjust automatically to guide the missile to the target.
