Proceedings of the the Third Workshop on Science with the by Alessandro DeAngelis,Oriana Mansutti

By Alessandro DeAngelis,Oriana Mansutti

The contributions during this quantity offer a picture of the newest study and destiny plans for space-borne and ground-based experiments devoted to the remark of the gamma-ray sky. The articles are authored via either professional veterans of the 1st devoted gamma-ray missions, and younger scientists coming into the interesting box of gamma-ray astrophysics. With the arrival of gamma-ray instrumentation on spacecraft and massive and delicate ground-based detectors, new and unforeseen phenomena were chanced on, corresponding to gamma-ray bursts and gamma-ray emission from blazars. The colossal energy of the sphere within the present "post-EGRET period" is witnessed by means of the varied ongoing and drawing close gamma-ray experiments documented right here, complementary to varied cosmic-ray, neutrino, astroparticle and X-ray initiatives.

Also the one-degree arc from the SNR center is indicated by the dotted line. The strong gamma-ray emission from the NW rim is obviously seen, which was first reported by CANGAROO-II. 1. Mechanical/Optical Performance The VERITAS telescopes are of an f/1 Davies-Cotton design with a 12 m aperture. The mechanical structure consists of a commercial alt-alzimuth mount (model PG-4000) manufactured by RPM-PSI (Northridge, California) and a steel optical support structure (OSS) custom designed by M3 Engineering (Tucson, Arizona) and fabricated by Amber Steel (Chandler, Arizona). The telescope can be seen in the lefthand picture of figure 1. 3 °/s. A slightly modified drive system has been tested with a slew speed of 1 °/s; T l will be upgraded to this new system and the remaining telescopes will have it installed as standard.

Indeed, it was reported as a TeV gammaray source about thirty years ago when it was at a high state [17].
