My concern is with the person who carries a stigma and how others respond to that person. The primary distinction, here, is whether the individual can hide the stigma, and thus remain integrated into society, or is known as stigmatized and is therefore forced to try and meet many of their needs by relying heavily on a network of similarly stigmatized others.
