On 17 July 2011, under the auspices of the ICC, an International Criminal Justice Day was inaugurated to recall the development and achievements of international criminal justice institutions. The ICTY participated in the celebrations. The President of the Tribunal, Judge Robinson, reflected on its ‘pioneering’ role in the field. He was right. But for the establishment of the ICTY, it is doubtful that the ICC, with all its merits, would have seen the light of day. On 11 November 2011, he appropriately told the Security Council that: [t]he Tribunal represents the aspirations of the international community to ensure that justice prevails over impunity, and this is something in which we all have a stake.
