Zwei Details aus dem Gebälk sind auf Seite 38–39 unten zu sehen. 36 37 38 39 Die Abbildung läßt die nüchterne Architektur der Kurie vor dem Hintergrund der Kirche der Hl. Lukas und Martina erkennen. Die Kurie – Versammlungsort des Senats – wurde der Überlieferung zufolge vom König Tullus Hostilius (daher der Name Curia Hostilia gegründet; 80 v. Chr. wurde sie dann von sulla (oder Sylla) aus dem Geschlecht der Cornelier (Curia Cornelia), im Jahre 20 v.
Der Bau bestand aus einem großen, rechteckigen Saal, der durch lange Säulenreihen – sie trugen das Dach – in Schiffe unterteilt wurde. Das Mittelschiff war höher und bot daher im obersten Teil Fenstern Platz. Vor der Basilika, zum Platz hin, befand sich ein zweigeschossiger Säulenportikus; hier waren zahlreiche Läden untergebracht. Die rechte Seite zeigt Reliefs aus der Basilica Aemilia im Antiquarium des Forums. Seite 38 zeigt oben die einzige noch vorhandene Basilika aus der Zeit der Republik, die Basilica Aemilia, die 179 v. Chr. von M. Aemilius Lepidus und M. Fulvius Nobilior erbaut und von Mitgliedern der gens Aemilia mehrmals restauriert wurde – daher ihr Name. Sie war eigentlich ein überdachter Raum, der während der schlechten Jahreszeit die Aktivitäten des Forums beherbergen sollte. Ihre Architektur ist von griechischen Vorbildern abgeleitet, die über die Kolonien in Süditalien bekannt geworden waren.
