Maintain the capability to conduct suppression of enemy air defense operations. Organization There are six F/A-18D VMFA(AW)s in the operating forces. Each squadron has 12 reconnaissance-capable aircraft. However, only four can be configured with ATARS at any one time to provide this aerial reconnaissance capability.
